In The Beginning
We had 3 dogs and one wonderful pet cat, Orphan Annie...

When our aging cat Orphan Annie passed away, my husband wanted to get a Bengal.

Ophelia
In her new home with us Ophelia was quite verbal and curious. She quickly taught us about the many unique Bengal qualities. She loved everyone, never met a stranger. She assumed her opinion was valued in all conversations. She would bound to the door when the doorbell rang. She came running when called and obeyed basic instructions most cats believe are meant for dogs. She learned the only way she was allowed outside was riding on my husband's shoulder, and to this day will leap to any empty shoulder (to the dismay of some guests).
Her favorite things were the highest places in the house and hanging out with our 3 dogs.  We had a St. Bernard, a large Pound Puppy type, and a Shar Pei. Although her breeder family did not have dogs, she loved our dogs from the first day and has passed that quality along to her kittens.

We learned sometime later that we had accidentally acquired the Bengal kitten that the breeder had intended to keep.   His wife had inadvertently sold us the wrong one.  So they encouraged us to at least to try one breeding with her.
As much as we enjoyed Ophelia's playfulness and loving chatter, we found the litter that she delivered to be every bit as much fun as their Mom.   And that ended our "single cat" household days. From her first litter,  we kept a beautiful boy named BeeGee, who later fathered 2 lovely daughters, Ariel and Blue.

That is the story of how Pleasant Pond Cattery got started.  We lived on a beautiful lake named Pleasant Pond, hence the name.
