We have chosen to use the American Shorthair to enhance some of our silver lines. Silver American Shorthair cats have been around for 200 plus years, so it seemed a logical outcross for our silver Bengals. An outcross is a planned breeding designed to enhance a specific desirable trait or to increase genetic diversity in a line. Offspring from these breedings are sometimes called "Outcross Kittens" and will carry a TICA registration prefix of AON. The first generation from an outcross breeding (Bengal X American Shorthair) are registered as Bengals. These kittens will have the AON prefix on their TICA registration. Second generation outcross kittens (Bengal X AON Bengal) will also be registered as Bengals and will have the TICA registration prefix of BON. The third generation outcross ( Bengal X BON Bengal) will carry the TICA registration prefix of CON. The next generation outcross, fourth (Bengal X CON Bengal) will carry the designation SBT in their TICA registration. SBT kittens can be shown.
We are grateful to Valerie Ann Edwards, for entrusting 2 lovely American Shorthair cats to us. Tess, Crown E Midnight Tease and Cass, Ch. Crown E Silver Tradition. Recent kittens available from these outcross breedings are pictured above. The kittens will be large, robust and have wonderful temperaments.
